Shotton’s talented Year 7 in their performing debut at Shotton Hall!

The traditional “New Starters’ Concert” was another huge success, with a large number of talented Year 7 students performing songs, dances, instrumental pieces, monologues and group items which included string ensembles, a clarinet group, Year 7 Choir and Drama Club. Earlier in the day the whole year group had taken to the stage to perform their songs and dances that they had been working on in curriculum time. All of the tutors expressed their delight at seeing their groups perform, and when asked about both the afternoon performances and the evening concert, Year 7 Learning Manager was full of both admiration and praise for the talent and the confidence that had been evident. An exciting five years lies ahead for our new performers!

Busy July ends another succesful year for the new Academy at Shotton Hall Performing Arts.

As the summer term came to an end, students were involved in a huge number of performances and other activities. Wednesday 6th to Friday 8th July was the Key Stage 3 production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”. A cast of 50 talented students performed to sell out audiences, and producer Miss Peel praised their effort, enthusiasm, and above all their superb energy every performance. The following week saw the annual “Cultural Heritage Day”, involving singing, dancing, drama and instrumental items from across the primary schools as well as Shotton Hall groups. Also that week the fantastic new outside performance area was used for the first time for the Music Department Summer Concert. The rain held off for the evening as audiences were treated to music by all of our ensembles as well as many solo and small group items. On the Friday evening student in the Year 10 BTEC group performed their Musical Theatre show, a range of songs and dances from musicals around the world. And finally during the final week of term 48 students in Y9 and Y10 went on a visit the London, taking part in various city tours, a flight on the London Eye, and seeing “Billy Elliot” on the West End- starring Shotton Hall’s very own Year 8 student Connor Lawson!

A fantastic month for everyone involved, we look forward to a well deserved summer break, and another exciting year ahead!
