Welcome to The Academy at Shotton Hall Performing Arts Website
Over the last 10 years the Performing Arts have had a huge impact on the life of our school, and we are incredibly proud of our students’ acheivments. Our Steel Band have performed at the National Festival of Music in Birmingham and last year several students gained places in the National Youth Choir and the National Youth Theatre. Our choir and concert band went on a fantastic trip to Italy in October, which included our Chamber Choir performing in the Mass in St Mark’s Basillica in Venice. Our drama clubs produced no less than 6 excellent plays, including “Midsummer Nights Dream” as part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival, and our dancers continued to perfom in and around the region including at the Gala Theatre, Durham and Dance City. Five of our talented Year 11s performed live on BBC1 as the group “Flair” in the Comic Relief Does Glee Club programme. We performed two fantastic shows, “Footloose” (with our KS4 students) and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” to sell out audiences. In the final week before the summer holidays, over 600 students join together to take part in a series of performances including our annual cultural heritage day and dinner theatre.
In January 2011 we moved to our brand new home in our state-of-the-art building, which includes our proffesional theatre. Take a look around our website and see photos of our all of our events and trips over the last year, and see videos and listen to short extracts of some of the fantastic performances that have taken place. You will also find dates of all forthcoming concerts and shows, as well as a wealth of information about our huge array of community activities. If you want to know more, please feel free to leave a note on our message board or contact us via email or phone. we would love to hear from you

Monday 19th December 2011- Another sucessful Christmas Season comes to an end
Students have once again been busy with a number of performances for the festive season. This year the Academy once again held two Christmas Concerts, with pieces by Choir, Concert Band, String and Brass Groups and the Steel Bands, as well as numerous solo and smaller group items. On thursday the Steel Bands played their annual slot at ASDA Peterlee, raising funds for both the band and our trip to Europe next year. The Choir and Brass group also took part in the annual Carol Service, and all students taking part in next years tour had a very wet and cold day in the Market Square in Durham, again raising funds for the trip. Some wonderful festive performances and lot of hard work and dedication by both students and staff, and we now look forward to a very exciting 2012!
